What made you try yoga for the first time?
I discovered yoga after suffering from a running injury. I was told by my doctor that the only types of exercise that I could do were yoga and swimming, and since I lived in Manhattan at the time and didn't have access to a pool, I decided to try yoga. Needless to day, I quickly became hooked and the rest is history!
What's your favorite yoga pose and why?
Pigeon forever! Pigeon gives me the most relief of any yoga pose out there. I love how it feels, I love how I feel after doing it, and I always need more pigeon in my life. I teach it in *almost* every class because I feel that it is so beneficial for our chair-bound culture.
What's your favorite book and why?
I have so many favorites, but I really love The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls. I love reading memoirs, and I think this is one of the best I've ever read.
What inspires you?
Naure, sunshine, art, being with people I love, and of course, yoga
Best trip you've ever taken?
I'm fresh off of leading a yoga retreat to Costa Rica, which was definitely one of the best trips I've taken recently, but I have so many favorites. I loved my travels while studying abroad in France, last year's family skiing trip to Alta, Utah, and my honeymoon to San Diego.
What's your biggest guilty pleasure?
Dark Chocolate Reeces. I could eat them all day, every day.
What's your favorite part of teaching yoga?
I love seeing the transformation that takes place from the beginning to the end of practice--the way that people come in stressed, figity, and tired, and leave more relaxed, open, and connected. It's a beautiful thing. I also love the look on students' faces when they come into a pose that they didn't think was possible for their body.
What's your favorite type of music to practice to?
I mix it up--folk, traditional, world music, electronic, indie--I love it all! Music is a big part of both practicing and teaching for me, as I find it can really aid in energy flow and mindfulness. You can check out some of my class playlists here.
