Inversions for Expanding Awareness With Petra L. van Aarem

Whether it’s an invigorating handstand or recuperative, supported shoulder stand, inversions are key essential postures for nourishing the brain and clarifying the Sahasrara (crown) Chakra. When practiced with adequate preparation and support, benefits of inversions include:

• Optimal function of the vital organs
• Decompression of the spine, back pain relief
• Optimal function of lymphatic and circulatory systems for immune support
• Balance of the nervous system for boost of positive mood
• Ideal preparation for meditation

In this workshop we will break down the fundamentals of and prepare the body for four essential inversions:

Adho Mukha Vrksasana - Handstand
Pincha Mayurasana – Forearm Stand
Sirsasana - Headstand
Salamba Sarvangasana – Shoulder Stand

We utilize the wall, yoga chairs, and other props to explore several anatomically safe and accessible variations of these inversions to build confidence and competence going upside down. An extended meditation completes the practice to reside in expanded of awareness
